Step Eight - Using Visuals To Communicate

Visuals
Visuals are one of my favorite things about competition. As a Judge, I love to see the imagination and thought that competitors place into them. Visuals bring an aspect of creativity and when used correctly, they can enhance your role play presentation, making the difference between a “good role play” and an “I would hire that student role play because that is the type of person I want on my team”. The rule for creating visuals for your role play is Quality Over Quantity. I need to be able to read it. Having too many visuals in not as great as a two to three quality visuals. This means it is important to choose a few visuals that have the most significance to your specific role play in order to maximize your impact. For example, when competing in the Business Finance Series, it would be wiser to create a spreadsheet or budget, as opposed to a marketing flyer or coupon. If you want to put it over the top, add a graph and always give the Judge a business card after you shake his or her hand and ask permission to be seated. In a role play, you will have to make all of your visuals during your preparation time and make sure you leave everything along with any notes at the end with your Judge.
